First, this is both hand dyed (with Kool Aid) AND handspun. Whoa. I’m almost impressed with myself! It’s even soft, unlike a lot of my other spinning adventures… I seem to have been overzealous with the twist before. The green is REALLY REALLY green. I like it. I might use it to make an android toy, it’s the perfect color for that.
Socks for Jeff! I call the colorway “That 70s yarn” because of… well, I guess you can tell. The socks are not perfect, but I did my best. I love how the yarn pooled – also Kool Aid dyed.
Both yarn and roving are superwash BFL, purchased from WCMercantile on Etsy.
Ok, so Jeff (I always mistype that as Heff, HMMM… What does it mean!?) isn’t part of the purple madness, but enabling me counts. He got me a purple mouse for Viola Pussyfoot. Because I’m irresistible when I beg.
Anyway, that was not the miserable part.
I am miserable. I got the Stomach Flu Of Doom (tm)(c) last night. Protip: Do not eat orange if there is any chance you’ll have to taste it a second time.
It did make for a colourful experience, at least.
So, mommy being miserable led to, you guessed it, bebeh being unhappy. Because for once she couldn’t spend all her time glued to me. Which is a sad sight. To make matters worse, her mean, unloving parents had a baby prison delivered today. The nerve! Poor bebeh can’t try to climb the bookshelves when we’re not looking, it’s not faaaair!
Of course, unhappy bebeh led to…drumroll Exhausted daddy! He had to get up after less than 4 hours of sleep to take care of the little monster. Mommy needed a nap.
If you think they were happy to see me when I woke up, refreshed by nap and painkillers (achy joints suck), you’re right. Baby tried to climb her prison to get to me faster, and breathed a huge sigh of relief as soon as she was in my arms.
Jeff was a pile of tired inside the prison, so I told him to go to bed.
Then A fell asleep on my lap, happily holding the boob, willing it to never, ever leave again. Ever!
Now we’re all snuggling in bed. I won’t say anything about happy endings, the Internet has forever ruined my ability to not be 12.
The end.
…that it’s really boring to knit one thing when all you want to do is knit something else.
Because I want to knit socks, socks, socks.
Also, I may have a new addiction. Yarn porn. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
(THERE’S SO MUCH PRETTY PURPLE!!!)
I had some ugly, yellow yarn I hated – but there’s one thing I hate more than ugly colours, and that’s wasting yarn. So I overdyed it with orange and cherry Kool Aid, and used some of it to knit baby socks. I think they came out great!
I’ll use the rest of the yarn to knit another pair of socks as well, because the baby grows faster than I can knit.
Action photo!
(which, coincidentally, happens to always make me think of this – a Mighty Boosh obsession, I haz it!)
My first pair of pretty, fitted socks is done! This is way more fun than knitting boot socks in plain, boring, solid coloured yarn.
Purple Koigu (the one with all the Ps)
My second pair has been started (for Jeff this time.)
They’re further along now, but I don`t have a more recent picture. Kool Aid dyed yarn. I’ve named the colour “That 70s yarn”, because of all the browns and yellows.
This is fun, and my feet are warm. A very good combination, no?
All hail Wendy D. Johnson for showing me the beauty of toe-up socks!
In other news, I traded some of A`s old cloth diapers for yarn! :D Now I only wish I had more things to trade for, because I need to stock up on sock yarn! Not to have a stash, mind you. Sock yarn doesn’t count as stash, after all.
I was getting tired of all the red, so here’s a little change. Nothing drastic, just a new banner and background. Because Amélie-Vanille is a huge part of my life now, and, well, she’s the reason I can’t update more often :p
Unless anyone wants me to post baby pictures. THAT I have plenty of!
Of course now my right wrist is acting up… I’m not sure of the reason, because there are so many possible culprits. I’ll have to be careful, but it’s hard when the yarn is calling.
…I’m knitting socks!
Pretty, purple Koigu socks!
Two at a time, magic loop. Because there’s no other way I’ll actually have two matching socks.
Well, aside from the obvious (taking care of baby), this:
A super cute, very easy caterpillar for Amélie-Vanille
Cut hair, dyed hair, got awesome new t-shirt. By now I need to dye hair again.
Finished very colourful booties for A.
…and shorts, for who else? Bebeh, of course.
Last, but not least, Kool-Aid dyed sock yarn. It smells like sheepy strawberries :p
I finished the toy I mentioned earlier. Actually, I finished two toys. The first one ended up scratchy, because apparently I suck at spinning soft yarn. Oh well. A liked it anyway, but I still wanted to make her a softer, cuddlier one.
For the second one I used the softest yarn I had, and also made a little blanket for it to hold, since I remembered my little brother used to love tickling his cheek with a soft cloth when he was a baby.
Attempt #1 (Stuffies by Ysolda Teague):
Attempt #2 (Bubby from Knitty):
Baby-approved:
Made this ridiculously bright and colourful necklace for A to stare at and grab while nursing. She’s started scratching me, so hopefully this will be more interesting.
Would you believe it, I both started AND finished something, in the same week! Mark your calendars, I don’t think it will happen again for a while… I just got Little Big Planet for the PSP, to play while bebeh sleeps.
Thanks again to knitterotica for sending me the yarn, it’s lovely and perfect!
Here summer has started for real. It’s so warm outside, you wouldn’t believe we live in Canada.
I spend my days taking care of Amélie-Vanille and raveling. It’s not a bad life! We go outside every day for little walks, she loves it so much.
Today we walked all the way to the store (that’s about 45 minutes of walking right there), A. in the carrier, all covered up from the sun. I’m not sure I’ll do that again, it was a bit too hot. Good thing it was windy, or I think all three of us would have had a heat stroke.
I still have no time for knitting. It’s ok, it’s too warm now anyway. Besides, Jeff got me a brand new PSP GO for mother’s day (how spoiled am I!), so I’d rather spend any spare time playing Loco Roco 2.
A. loves the diaper-only weather. She’s not a big fan of clothes, the little troll.
Just look how happy she is!
If anyone wants to send me truckloads of ice cream to cool down, go ahead!
Or maybe a crapload of mojitos… it’s the ultimate summer drink, I crave it every time it gets warm outside.
The sad thing about socks: The toes/heels wear out way before the leg. So there you are, with 3/4 of a sock being in great shape, while the bottom 1/4 is a mess of holes and patched up holes and more holes on top of that.
Usually I just cut off the foot and wear the remains as legwarmers, but really, how many rainbow legwarmers can one person need? Surely 4 pairs must be enough for now!
So, this is what I did with the most recent pair to bite the dust. I made strap covers for Amélie-Vanille’s Ergo carrier. See, she loves to suck on the straps. Ergo sells strap covers too, but they’re expensive. I’m way too cheap to pay for someone to sew one seam on a couple of bits of fabric. Now I can just remove the covers to clean off baby drool. Yay! Silly baby can get to drool on CLEAN fabric every time.
A bunch of little shape cutters for bento:
The cutest bowl ever, and the only bowl I will use for my ice cream from now on:
`$%/$?&# cats! White circles = damage (pulled stitches), black arrows = incriminating white hair (Sally, I know it was you who figured out how to open the zipper on my knitting bag! Is world domination next on your list, little monster?):
Cute, felted purse, perfect for pens:
Baby jacket in progress, also attacked by white cat hair (grrrrrr):
The reason I no longer have time for much else (best, most adorable reason ever):
My deepest apologies for neglecting you. I will get better, I promise! I even have a little bit of time to knit now. There will be things to show.
(I just discovered 6 comments waiting to be moderated, oops. Must remember to check more often, because I don’t get an email telling me they’re there)
…or possibly quite a lot more than just one. I decided a long time ago that I wanted to use cloth diapers for baby. After a month of using disposables because the diapers we had bought were simply too big, I got even more determined. I had no idea what to pick, though. We had gotten a few prefolds, but I wasn’t crazy about them. So a friend sent me a few fitteds (to those not in the know, fitted diapers are made from absorbent fabric, and need a diaper cover to keep the moisture in).
I fell in love with one of the kinds she sent me, called Thirsties (weird name for a diaper, I know). I love them because they’re so colourful and happy-looking!
Knitting? I haven’t had time for knitting! I started a pair of longies/pants, but am not even a quarter of the way done on the first leg. Sheesh, babies require a lot of attention!
(I bought the diapers from A Mother’s Touch in Canada, btw. I highly recommend them. The service was great, the shipping fast. All around great, and I will definitely go back for the next size once Amélie-Vanille grows out of the diapers she has now.)
She fell asleep the moment the car started, despite screaming her lungs out right before – oh, how I wish we had our own car, for those nights (and days) when she just does NOT want to sleep.
I knitted the bonnet, btw. The patterns is the Top Down Bonnet with Anime Character – except without Totoro, because he doesn’t come in purple :) I love the pattern, it’s very easy and quick to make. And cute, when added to a baby.
I’ve started my own 365project – it’s about taking one photo every day to document a year in photos. I started with no specific plan, but then realized that almost all the pictures were of baby. So I figured I’d document Amélie-Vanille’s first year. It will be fun to see how she grows and changes. I don’t have any pictures of her crying yet, although I suppose I should, since she has her fussy moments. It’s just that when she cries I’m kind of busy trying to calm her down – I’d be a mean mommy to stick a camera in her face when she’s clearly upset.
Speaking of baby, I think I have to go feed her now, she’s trying to eat her fingers!
…in the purple blanket that all her CPaAG aunties made for her. The blanket is a LOT prettier IRL, with many many shades of purple and a bunch of different textures. I love it, but keep on telling myself that the blanket belongs to Amélie-Vanille, so I only get to use it when I snuggle her :)
Here’s a picture of the whole blanket, taken by the lovely person who seamed it all (must have been a lot of work!)
Yesterday we took Amélie-Vanille outside for the first time. I carried her in a wrap under my winter coat, she was very comfortable despite the cold. As for me, I couldn’t stop squeeing the whole time, it was the most adorable thing ever.
Adorable, but big :p
Oh, and this picture, because I love it so:
The little charmer is currently pooping. How I know? Because she grunts loudly: “HHNNNNNNGHHH! HNNNNNNNNN! HNNNNNNGHHHH!”. I never thought the sound of someone pooping could be so cute!
